Did you know that, according to the Red Cross, only 3 out of every 100 people donate blood in the USA? It’s probably one of the easiest things you can do for your community and so few actually take the time. While you should consider doing it throughout the year, January is the month dedicated to spread awareness about blood donation.

The Red Cross is just one of many organizations that stresses the importance and need for blood donors.  While one donor usually can only give 1 pint of blood at a time, the average red blood cell donation needed for transfusion is about 3 pints.  That’s why it’s important to donate blood as often as is allowed.

And how often would that be, you ask?  Every 56 days or 8 weeks.  That’s around 6 times per year.

So if you’re looking for something to do in this new year to help your community, consider giving blood.  It won’t take that much time and the impact you can have is great.
