It’s National Night Out Against Crime
Tonight, communities across the USA are gathering together to spread the word about crime and drug prevention during the 28th annual National Night Out Against Crime. Whether you’re able to celebrate the event with your community or not, take a minute today to learn more about what people are doing to make our neighborhoods safer.
The National Night Out Against Crime (organized by The National Association of Town Watch) was first introduced in 1984. That first year, 400 communities over 23 states participated in spreading awareness about crime (about 2.5 million Americans). Year after year, participation has steadily grown and in 2010, 15,110 communities over all 50 states participated in community festivities for the National Night Out (over 37 million Americans).
Every year in my community, I see signs for National Night Out Against Crime festivities. Many towns have programs especially for young children and teenagers to participate in anti-drug awareness and crime prevention activities.
For more information about National Night Out Against Crime activities in your neighborhood, check out their website. You can also call your local law enforcement or your village hall to see what may be planned for your community.
