Learn About Kidney Health During Kidney Disease Awareness Month
How often do you think about your kidneys? Probably not that often, but they are crucial organs that help filter toxins and waste from your blood and keep you healthy. This March, take a couple minutes to learn more about your kidneys and how to prevent Kidney Disease.
The National Kidney Foundation states that 26 million Americans have some form of Chronic Kidney Disease, two-thirds of which are caused by diabetes and high blood pressure. The Centers for Disease Control estimate that the incidence of diabetes in the USA will increase to 1 in 3 people by 2050 (the current rate is 1 in 10).
Keeping both your heart healthy as well is important to kidney health as heart disease is the major cause of death for people with kidney disease. Simple practices, like not smoking, controling your blood pressure, properly eating, and maintaining a healthy body weight can keep both your kidneys and heart healthy.
As always, if you’re concerned about your kidneys, talk to your doctor about checking in on those bean shaped organs and what lifestyle changes you can make to help keep them healthy.
