National Cancer Survivors Day is June 3rd
I was just trying to compile a list of all the cancer survivors I know, and I had to stop myself because the list was over 20 and I could be sitting here all day if I continued. For these and all the other cancer survivors we come in contact with at SupportStore, June 3rd is for you.
This next Sunday is the 25th annual National Cancer Survivors Day and is a worldwide celebration of those who have broken through the ribbon on their cancer treatment as well as those still running the race. It is always held on the first Sunday in June and is marked with fundraising events worldwide.
So who is considered a survivor? The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation defines a cancer survivor as “anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.” I can’t tell you how much I agree with this. If you’ve ever known someone going through chemo or radiation or have had organs or other tissue removed because of cancer, there’s no better word to describe them than survivor.
The biggest theme of National Cancer Survivors day – celebrate LIFE! So this June 3rd, celebrate with the cancer survivors you know and let them know what their journey has meant to you. Cancer definitely can throw a wrench into life; overcoming it is a feat of substantial strength that needs to be celebrated.
Cheers to all who have been there and back and are living their life and sharing their story of hope, courage and faith.
