January is National Mentoring Month. It is the month dedicated to motivating people to become mentors in their communities and for thanking those who have been your mentors, past and present.

If you think about all those important accomplishments you’ve made in your life, professional and personal, you most likely can’t help but think of the people who supported you along the way: teachers, professors, friends, parents, other family members or even working professionals who took the time to help you achieve your goals along the way.

Organizations like MENTOR work not only in January but also throughout the year to provide mentoring programs for the youth across the USA.  They state on their site that while 18 million children in the USA want and need a mentor, only about 3 million actually have one. 

Take the time to learn about becoming a mentor by going to the Mentoring.org website for programs in your area.  Also, take a few minutes on January 25th to say thanks on Thank Your Mentor Day.  Let that someone or someones who supported you through the years know how much of an influence they were in your life.
