All over the world this week, people are joining together to spread awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease. With an estimated 36 million people worldwide living with the disease, it’s a cause that deserves your attention.
According to The Alzheimer’s Association, 5.4 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s Disease and another case develops every 69 seconds. By 2050, the number of Americans with Alzheimer’s Disease is estimated to triple from what it is now. After diagnosis, most people survive 4 to 8 years while others may live far beyond that.
Alzheimer’s Disease effects more than the diagnosed patient. In 2010, The Alzheimer’s Association states that 14.9 million friends and family provided 17 billion hours of unpaid care to those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
